WITH THE ADVENT OF MODERN DENTISTRY, DENTAL AESTHETICS HAVE BECOME INCREASINGLY POPULARIZED AND DESIRED. THIS INCLUDES UNIFORM COLORING OF THE TEETH, WHICH CAN BE IMPAIRED BY AN ISOLATED DENTAL ELEMENT THAT RESULTS IN THE DARKENING OF THE CROWN. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT IS TO DOCUMENT THE IATROGENIC FACTORS FOUND IN THE LITERATURE, WHICH ARE DONE BY THE DENTIST DURING ENDODONTICS AND DENTISTRY, CULMINATING IN THE DARKENING OF THE TREATED TOOTH. THE METHODOLOGY USED WAS A SYSTEMATIC BIBLIOGRAPHIC REVIEW OF SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTIONS FOUND IN THE LITERATURE SO FAR, INCLUDING ARTICLES FROM THE SCIELO AND PUBMED PLATFORMS; BOOKS BY AUTHORS WITH PROMINENCE IN THE MENTIONED AREAS SUCH AS MONDELLI¹, ESTRELA² AND BARATIERI³; IN ADDITION TO REGIONAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL DENTISTRY JOURNALS. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT IATROGENESIS CAN OCCUR IN ALL STAGES OF ENDODONTIC TREATMENT. THESE ARE CAUSED BY SEVERAL REASONS, SUCH AS THE DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY OF THE PROCEDURE ACCORDING TO PULP OR PERIRADICULAR ANATOMY AND PATHOLOGY. OTHER ORIGINS REPORTED IN THE LITERATURE CONSIST OF THE TYPE OF INTRACANAL MEDICATION AND FILLING MATERIALS, TECHNICAL FAILURE OF THE OPERATOR DURING THE THERAPY STAGES AND THE PERFORMANCE OF AN INAPPROPRIATE PROTOCOL (ABSENCE OF ABSOLUTE ISOLATION, USE OF NON-RECOMMENDED INSTRUMENTS, AMONG OTHERS). WITH REGARD TO RESTORATIVE TREATMENT, THE MAIN FACTORS THAT ALLOW PIGMENTATION OF THE TOOTH AFTER THIS TYPE OF PROCEDURE ARE: POORLY ADAPTED RESTORATIONS, MATERIAL QUALITY, INADEQUATE FINISHING AND POLISHING, AS WELL AS EXCESS RESTORATION.
