INFLUENCE OF SEED SIZE IN VEGETATIVE DEVELOPMENT AND PRODUCTIVITY IN SOYBEAN

Abstract

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DIFFERENT SIZES OF SOYBEAN SEEDS AND GERMINATION AND VIGOR HAS BEEN STUDIED FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND BY SEVERAL AUTHORS, BECAUSE IT IS NECESSARY TO KNOW WHAT FACTORS MAY INTERFERE IN THE FINAL PRODUCTION. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS WORK IS TO EVALUATE THE INFLUENCE OF SEED SIZE ON VEGETATIVE DEVELOPMENT AND SOYBEAN YIELD. THE EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH VERA CRUZ AGROPECU�RIA LTDA., IN GOIAN�SIA-GO. A COMPLETELY RANDOMIZED DESIGN WITH THREE TREATMENTS (5, 6 AND 7 MM DIAMETER SIEVES) WAS USED WITH EIGHT REPLICATIONS. THE VARIABLES EVALUATED WERE: SPEED OF EMERGENCE INDEX (IVE), PLANT DEVELOPMENT, NUMBER OF GRAINS AND PODS PER PLANT AND PRODUCTIVITY PER HECTARE. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT IN THE IVE GERMINATION AND SUPERIOR INITIAL GROWTH OF THE SIEVE 6 MM WERE OBTAINED, BUT THE OTHER ONES WERE EQUALIZED AT THE END OF THE TEST AND THE SEEDLING DEVELOPMENT WAS OBTAINED VALUES WITH SMALL DIFFERENCES, BUT WITH A BETTER RESULT FOR 6 MM SIEVE, DIFFERENT FROM THE SIEVE. NUMBER OF GRAINS AND PODS PER PLANT, WHERE THE SIEVE 5 STOOD OUT, BUT THERE WAS NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN GRAIN YIELD
