Abstract

THE VEGETATION OF THE PERMANENT PRESERVATION AREAS (PPAS) PLAYS THE IMPORTANT ECOLOGICAL ROLES OF PROTECTING AND MAINTAINING WATER RESOURCES, CONSERVING THE DIVERSITY OF PLANT AND ANIMAL SPECIES, AND CONTROLLING SOIL EROSION AND THE CONSEQUENT SILTING AND POLLUTION OF WATER COURSES. 'WATER. WATER IS A VITAL RESOURCE FOR THE EXISTENCE OF ALL LIVING ORGANISMS, AND ABSTRACTION FOR DOMESTIC USE, AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION, MINING, INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION, POWER GENERATION, LEISURE ACTIVITIES AND FORESTRY PRACTICES CAN LEAD TO DETERIORATION OF AQUATIC ECOSYSTEM AND THE AVAILABILITY OF DRINKING WATER AVAILABLE FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO EVALUATE THE WATER QUALITY OF THE CAL��O DE COURO STREAM, IN WHICH PHYSICAL-CHEMICAL ANALYZES OF THE WATERS OF THE CÓRREGO CAL��O DE COURO STREAM SUB-BASIN LOCATED IN GOIAN�SIA-GOI�S MUNICIPALITY WERE CARRIED OUT. WATER QUALITY WAS COMPARED WITH INDICATORS ESTABLISHED BY CONAMA RESOLUTION N�º 357/2005. THE METHODOLOGY USED TO DEVELOP THIS RESEARCH WAS THE CASE STUDY, WITH SAMPLE COLLECTION. IN THIS WORK THE FOLLOWING VARIABLES WERE EVALUATED: PH, AIR AND WATER TEMPERATURE, ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY, TOTAL ALKALINITY, TOTAL HARDNESS AND CHLORIDES. IT WAS VERIFIED WITH THE RESULTS OBTAINED FOR CONDUCTIVITY THAT THE AMOUNT OF SALTS PRESENT IN THE WATER, CAN INDIRECTLY REPRESENT THE CONCENTRATION OF POLLUTANTS, GENERALLY, IN LEVELS SUPERIOR TO 100 μS CM -1, INDICATES THAT THE ENVIRONMENT WAS IMPACTED.
