Abstract

THE SUGAR-ENERGY SECTOR, WHICH INCLUDES THE PRODUCTION OF SUGAR AND ETHANOL, IS IMPORTANT FOR THE COUNTRY, GENERATES PROSPERITY AND CONTRIBUTES TO THE BALANCE OF TRADE WITH ITS EXPORTS. THE RAW MATERIAL USED BY THIS SECTOR IS SUGARCANE AND ITS BY-PRODUCTS, SUCH AS BAGASSE AND SUGARCANE STRAW. BOTH THE CANE AND THE BIOMASS FROM IT MUST PASS THROUGH THE MILL. GIVEN THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS PROCESS, SEVERAL MILLING METHODS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED OVER THE YEARS TO INCREASE THE PRODUCTIVITY OF ETHANOL AND SUGAR. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS WORK IS TO ANALYZE THE ECONOMIC VIABILITY OF IMPLANTING LOTUS ROLLS IN THE SUGARCANE MILLING PROCESS. FOR THIS, A CASE STUDY WAS CARRIED OUT IN A SUGAR AND ETHANOL PLANT IN THE CENTER OF GOIS, WHERE BEFORE AND AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF THE ROLLERS, THE CONCENTRATION OF TOTAL REDUCING SUGARS (ART) AND THE HUMIDITY IN THE BAGASSE THAT IS DESTINED TO THE PLANT'S BOILER WERE COMPARED, AS WELL AS THE MASS FLOW OF SUGARCANE AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE MILLS. IT WAS FOUND, COMPARING THE YEARS 2014 AND 2020, THAT THERE WAS A 37% REDUCTION IN THE FINANCIAL VALUE LOST BY BURNING SUGAR NOT EXTRACTED FROM BAGASSE, A 20.1% REDUCTION IN THE CONCENTRATION OF ART IN RESIDUAL BAGASSE AND AN INCREASE OF 6 .1% IN THE MASS FLOW OF SUGARCANE PROCESSED BY THE MILL, DUE TO THE SMALLER VOLUME OF THE DRIER BAGASSE. IN THIS WAY, IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE GENERAL AND SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES WERE ACHIEVED, THE HYPOTHESIS ANALYZED IN THE WORK THAT THE LOTUS ROLLS HAVE ECONOMICALLY VIABLE EFFICIENCY FOR THE COMPANY WAS CONFIRMED, HOWEVER, THE HUMIDITY IN THE SUGARCANE BAGASSE TO BE DESTINED FOR THE BOILER DID NOT DECREASED.
