Abstract

Maintenance is a crucial concept that, when routinely practiced, results in continuity of production lines and low costs. There are several types of maintenance strategies in industries. One important method is Preventive Maintenance (PM). The PM is based on the permanence of the parts in production and is intended to reduce the probability of potential failures, it is performed at predetermined intervals or according to prescriptive criteria performed prior to machine failure to keep the equipment in specified conditions, through of a process that involves regular inspections, identification and prevention of potential failures. This work seeks to analyze, through a case study, the implementation process of the preventive maintenance plan and the benefits generated for a company in the sugar and alcohol sector, located in the region of Vale do São Patrício in the state of Goiás. For this, 9 types of truck class assets were studied, comparing the periods before and after the implementation of a PM plan, and how three maintenance indicators behaved. The indicators studied were Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and availability. As a result, it was observed that there was a 34% improvement in the general MTBF, going from 32.3 to 43.3 days, a 10% worsening in the MTTR, going from 0.86 to 0.94 days, and an improvement of 1-point percentages in asset availability, going from 97.2 to 98.2%. Thus, it is concluded that the implementation of a PM plan is capable of bringing several benefits to the maintenance area of an organization, increasing the average time between failures of assets, their operation availability, guaranteeing greater productivity and, therefore, greater profits to the company.
