Abstract

ABSTRACT

GUT MICROBIOTA WAS ONCE CONSIDERED PATHOGENIC, BUT THE CONCEPT OF GUT MICROBIOTA AND ITS INFLUENCE ON HUMAN HEALTH IS UNDERGOING A MAJOR PARADIGM SHIFT AS THERE IS GROWING EVIDENCE OF ITS IMPACT ON INTESTINAL DEVELOPMENT HOMEOSTASIS, METABOLIC ACTIVITIES, AND THE IMMUNE SYSTEM. BASED ON THE ABOVE, THE PRESENT WORK AIMS TO DEAL WITH FECAL MICROBIOTA TRANSPLANTATION (FMT), ITS INDICATIONS AND CURRENT TECHNICAL PROTOCOLS. FOR THIS, AN EXPLORATORY-DESCRIPTIVE BIBLIOGRAPHIC REVIEW, OF A QUALITATIVE NATURE, WILL BE USED AS A METHODOLOGY. AND IT WILL DEAL IN ITS CHAPTERS ON THE CONCEPT OF INTESTINAL MICROBIOTA, THE HISTORY OF FMT, INDICATIONS AND CONTRAINDICATIONS OF TRANSPLANTATION AND ALSO, THE MAIN PROTOCOLS TO PERFORM THE PROCEDURE IN THE WORLD AND THE CURRENT SITUATION IN BRAZIL. FECAL MICROBIOTA TRANSPLANTATION IS AN INVESTIGATIONAL TREATMENT MODALITY. THUS, IT NEEDS SCIENTIFIC AND ETHICAL SUPPORT FOR ITS APPLICATION IN DAILY CLINICAL PRACTICE. IT SHOULD BE PERFORMED IN A RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT, IN CENTERS WITH EXPERIENCE IN THE TREATMENT AND WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE LOCAL ETHICS COMMITTEE, ESPECIALLY FOR CONDITIONS BEYOND THE ICD, FOR WHICH EVIDENCE OF BENEFIT IS STILL SCARCE. ITS USE OUTSIDE THESE MOLDS SHOULD BE DISCOURAGED IN BRAZIL.
