Abstract

Introduction: Forensic dentistry is a specialty of utmost importance for identifying people with charred, putrefying, skeletonized or mutilated bodies, with the collection of valuable information and data such as dental records and unique anatomical characteristics. However, conventional methods are time-consuming and require highly qualified professionals. Therefore, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has proven to be effective and has brought about a transformation in forensic dentistry practice. Objective: The objective was to verify the advances promoted by artificial intelligence, even though they are in the development process, they already demonstrate a transformation and evolution to improve traditional practices. Methodology: The research was carried out on the basis of Scielo, PubMed and the Virtual Health Library in a period from 2020 to 2025. After the selection criteria such as language, theme and access, 14 articles were selected. With the objective of clarifying and specifying the theme of the analysis. Results and Discussion: The results validated the great value of Artificial Intelligence as revolutionary processes to amplify the accuracy and capacity in forensic inspection. Since the oral cavity holds elements of utmost importance for the identification of victims, Artificial Intelligence demonstrates a promising activity in the contemporary age, especially in disaster victims. Final considerations: In summary, it is important to emphasize that AI has provided a key to solving the problem of accelerating forensic results. However, it is necessary to overcome the difficulties in data normalization, the training of models with a variety of samples, and ethical and legal regulation. In view of this, it is playing a crucial role and shows a very promising future in forensic science. It is also worth emphasizing that AI should be used as a tool to support the work of experts, never replacing the technical and ethical perspective of the forensic professional, coexisting in an integrated manner, mitigating problems such as human errors, achieving high accuracy in analyses and the automation of repetitive and detailed tasks, allowing the expert to focus on complex decisions and detailed strategies.
