Palavras-chave:

Accidents at work are complex and influenced by multiple factors, including inadequate working conditions and the incorrect use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This study evaluated the epidemiological profile of reported cases of occupational accidents involving exposure to biological material in two health regions in the state of Goiás. The methodology involved an integrative review of Brazilian literature to synthesize the results of primary research between 2019 and 2024, focusing on health professionals who suffered accidents at work involving exposure to biological materials.
The results show that the most common accidents occur among nursing technicians, predominantly female, representing 70.7% of the cases analyzed. The sociodemographic analysis highlighted the importance of implementing specific measures that consider the socio-economic and cultural factors of this professional class. Data from FIOCRUZ indicates an increase in reports of accidents involving nursing professionals in recent years, underlining the necessity of discussing and improving workplace safety for these professionals.
Understanding the causes of these accidents is crucial to reducing their frequency. The study recommends initiatives focused on worker protection and the correct use of PPE, aiming to contribute to the creation of safer and healthier working environments for healthcare professionals.
